more power!

A faster computer is always a good thing. Rather than buying yourself a brand new PC, you can easily add computer memory to your desktop or laptop. Seriously - it’s so easy, even I can do it! RAM is getting a lot cheaper too. OEM PC World offers a neat system scan of your PC to determine exactly what type of memory will work for you, so that you get exactly what you need for more power! (I feel a little like Tim the Tool Man Taylor when I say that!)

usb for me

Ever gotten rid of some piece of add on hardware, because you can’t find the USB cable that came with it? Yeah, me too. Despite saving every cord we ever received since entering the computer age in 1997, I’ve never been able to reuse a cord on another product. I just found a site to save me from ever hunting through the box o’ cords and cables - they sell a USB adapter to fit almost anything. They’ve got this sweet little USB flash drive too:

That’s for the ultimate geek - it’s a watch and 128MB of storage, all in one! (What a great gift for the guys in tech support!)

The site doesn’t just feature USB adapters either - they’ve got a whole lineup of products, from keyboard, PS/2, & video adapters to HDMI, cables, and iPod accessories. I think I feel secure in throwing out my box of misc. cords and plugs, because if I ever really needed something, I could find it here.

sense of direction

I’ve always had a great sense of direction. When we took family vacations, my father would pass the map back to me and let me navigate, because my mother could get lost in an elevator. Seriously! I guess I get that sense of direction from my father…because it sure didn’t come from mom. In fact, she’d probably really enjoy having an automotive GPS in her car. She doesn’t get lost around town, but she could put it to work when she steps out of her comfort zone. A GPS uses satellites to receive signals - that combined with thousands of maps lets you know where you are, and how to get where you’re going. (Ooh, big brother is watching you!)

laptop deals

If you’re in the market for a new laptop, Marcus wrote about the best laptop deals out there this week on Techboyardee.com. Not only did he compare apples to apples, specs to specs, but he provided prices from online stores, like Tiger Direct, and traditional brick and mortar retailers like Best Buy.

If you can wait til the end of the year, that’s probably the best time to find a deal. We bought our kids a laptop a few years ago and paid under $400 for it with rebates, and got a free Epson printer and scanner too!
