yes virginia, there is a free 411!
If you’re like me, you’ve called for directory assistance from your cell phone, and you’ve paid $1 or more for the service. I’m able to avoid calling 411 when I’m at home, because I’ve got quick access to the internet and phone books, but when I’m out, sometimes I’m forced to do it. There’s a new service, called 1-800-FREE411, that’s providing people with completely free directory assistance. Sponsors of 1-800-FREE411 play short advertising messages (around 15 seconds long) when you call 1-800-FREE411, and after hearing the commercial, you’ll be connected to the number you requested. It doesn’t take any longer than calling the regular 411 service, but it’s free.
For the month of October, each time a new person calls 1-800-FREE411 during the month of October, the company will donate $1 (up to $25,000) to benefit the National Breast Cancer Coalition Fund.

I’ve been using 1-800-FREE411 for about a year now, and I’ll never use regular 411 again. It became my new best friend after my cell phone company started charging me an extra $1.99 to connect the call on top of the $1.99 they charge just to use the service to begin with!
