do you reply?

I was helping someone set up a new Wordpress blog this morning and trying to explain commenting to her. I got to thinking about how the whole commenting thing works, and wondered if others out there reply to them like I do. It’s a little frustrating to leave your mark on a site with a well thought out comment, or a nice message, and for it to be ignored. I tend to think of comments as email, and I try to respond to every single one I get, even if it’s just to say “Thanks for visiting my blog!”

Why do I put so much time and effort into replying to comments? Because I know it makes me happy when people respond to my comments, so I’m trying to do the same thing. I appreciate (almost) every single visitor to my site. (Spammers - I don’t appreciate you all so much!) Why not reply to their comment and let them know you’re happy they stopped by?

Do you reply to your comments?

I’ve gotten wiser over the years, and I now reply to as many comments as I can. I didn’t realize how important it was to participate in the comment dialogue publically until recently.

I try to respond to comments as much as possible - mostly because I have been “ignored” on other blogs after commenting and it’s a shitty feeling.

I try to respond… for awhile I couldn’t get my wp to email me comments, but now that it is I reply to virtually everything! I don’t reply on my blogspot though cause they don’t come with an email address attached.

I respond to almost all of the comments left on my blog. I feel like that’s the considerate thing to do. I may not always respond right away, but I do respond.

Having more than 3 blogs now, I find it very motivating to continue writing everyday when people drop by and leave comments. I tried to reply to each and every comment and even visit the visitors blog if they have any.

I do respond - but more so in the comments section on the blog vs replying via email. I wonder if I should do both?

I have to control my temper sometimes to not go & comment on the spammer’s blogs, I guess in the long run the high road is better, but it sure isn’t fun!

I reply to comments thru email when I get them. Maybe I should start replying to them on my site as well.

I respond, it might not always be an email response (especially from my blogger blog) but if I don’t email I will visit you and return the comment! I love comments, and I enjoy getting them and visiting that persons blog to see what we might have in common, or not in common. Makes me feel sociable LOL

I always try and reply to a comment on my blog, but via the site itself. Otherwise, other readers may not realise I do pay attention to what they have to say.
Having said all that, I have met a couple of fellow bloggers, here in Kazakhstan, by e-mailing them after they commented on one of my posts.
How do others feel about only responding via the blog? Is it considered rude not to also e-mail?

Good article. I respond to comments via comment on my post.

Do not like getting emails with response to posts. Can you “not” send an email?

Here for the Blogging Success Carnival. I guess we are it.
