circuit city layoffs
I see a lawsuit in Circuit City’s future.
The company is laying off over 3,000 workers that the store considers to be “higher”, or “better” paid, and replacing them with people who will do the job for less money. The employees being targeted are receiving a severance package, and will get the chance to reapply for their former jobs, but for less pay.
The “high pay” rate being targeted? One person being laid off was a sales floor staff member earning a whopping $7.75 per hour. Meanwhile, Philip J. Schoonover, the Chairman, President, and CEO earned a $716,346 salary and a $704,700 bonus in 2005.

the fact that they also felt the need to escort the employees out of the stores like they were thieves is insane. what are all these people supposed to do now? and they do it at a time when they can cut their insurance right after. what kind of message do they really think they are sending people? “hey even if you have been with us 15 years your loyalty means squat when it comes down to it” its insane!
