leaving comments 101
A few months ago, I wrote up a piece on blog comment ettiquette. Today, I’m adding to it - let’s call the whole thing “Leaving Comments 101″. The original post, along with my suggestions for making yourself heard can be found here.
In additional to my original thoughts, here are some things bugging me.
If you’re commenting, make it worth reading. I can SO tell when someone is commenting JUST for the point of commenting. They don’t even bother to reference anything I said in my post. The comment is vague, and it’s left just for the purpose of getting a link back to their own site. Tacky.
Secondly, my comments are NOT the place to plug your own site or your own agenda. If you’re that inspired, write your own blog entry. Don’t link back to your site in the comment field unless you’re specifically asked to do so, like with the Supahstar Saturday posts. Don’t leave a big comment promoting something you’re doing at YOUR site. Comments like:
“You can visit my blog to see my thoughts on this TV show…I have info on the theme show, the actors, the plots…blah blah blah”…
with links? Annoying! Don’t poach my visitors!
Have a little common courtesy…leaving comments like this is the same as spamming people via email or going door to door to offer me some other service.
